The JASON Project with Rusch fourth graders
JASON = Science + Reading + Writing + Technology
In other words, a tremendous amount of higher level thinking!
"What I like about JASON is..."
Acting it Out
If you were challenged with physically representing: *freezing and thawing *rusting metal *erosion by currents How would you do it? |
Dr. Richard M. Cash, Director of Gifted Programs for Bloomington, Minnesota Public Schools, believes students need to have "An engaging, rigorous curriculum that infuses high-level thinking skills, delivered through authentic differentiated instructional practices, within a student-centered classroom environment." This is the focus of The JASON Project

JASON in the Classroom
With the importance of reading, writing and math, science often takes a back seat. The JASON project has allowed Mrs. Roberts, fourth grade teacher at Rusch, to integrate reading and writing with an online science curriculum.
The JASON Project was created by Dr. Robert Ballard so students could follow his current projects as well as learn more about the earth we live in. Mrs. Roberts' students are studying mapping, weathering/erosion, plate tectonics, volcanoes, earthquakes, and fossils.
Students begin class by logging into the Fourth Grade Science Weebly for directions. From here they are instructed to complete digital graphic organizers as they read JASON text, view photos and videos, investigate other websites and information, participate in labs, and answer critical thinking questions. Almost all of their work is done on computers with a partner, which has improved their 21st Century and technology skills dramatically. Now that our district is using Google Apps, students complete their work right online and have it automatically saved to their account. They share their assignments with Mrs. Roberts, who can grade and comment on their work right online. Students can instantly see how they are progressing.

Learning our Curriculum by using Technology is FUN!
