MATH 24
REGIONAL Competition!
Eighteen Portage students (grades 4 and 5 below) competed in a Math 24 regional competition in Reedsburg recently. They brought home 6 medals! All the practicing of mental math facts paid "dividends!" Congratulations to Madelyne K, Carsten K, Mahlon K, Spencer P, Tycen M, & David N!

December, January, and February are big months for students in grades 4 & 5 to practice their mental math skills. Using four numbers on a card, students compete to make the number 24 the fastest. They can multiply, divide, add or subtract to get there and must remember how they did it! The competition is fierce, and solving the most cards usually gains you the most points. Some cards are worth more than others, but it's often the "one pointers" that can be "stumper cards." The students below really enjoy the game and know how to play it. Congratulations to the following students who will represent Portage at a regional competition in March. More photos of the tournaments are below.
