Spelling Bee |
Event Date -
Feb. 1, 2022 |
The Portage School District participates in two regional spelling bees. Grades 4 and 5 attend the CWTAG bee and middle school students participate in the National SCRIPPS Bee. Both are held on the same day in the PHS auditorium and parents are welcome to attend. The CWTAG bee usually has about 50 students participating from area districts and there is a winner and runner up. The SCRIPPS Bee hosts around 30 students and the winner advances to the state level. The bees are conducted in rounds and include a multiple choice vocabulary round.
To prepare, classroom teachers and individual schools hold their own elimination bees and/or spelling tests. Two students from each school are allowed to attend the regional bees.
